Tapestries

The tapestries woven by Dovecot Studios are unique, hand-woven artworks.

The weavers use skills which have been developed through many years of weaving experience, and which have been passed from Master Weaver to apprentice at the Dovecot for nearly 100 years.

Primarily using wool, linen and cotton weft threads, the weavers blend hundreds of colours in an almost limitless number of combinations to translate the images of artists and designers into textiles.

Dovecot tapestries are commissioned by private individuals, public bodies and corporate clients. They are woven in collaboration with leading artists and designers as well as being designed by the weavers themselves.

Just as each pass of the bobbin is unique, each Dovecot tapestry is a bespoke piece of art which augments the vibrant and enduring tradition of tapestry weaving.
