Weavers
Douglas Grierson – Head Weaver
Douglas joined Dovecot Studios as an apprentice and now leads the studio and the weaving team. He has worked with many leading artists and designers to produce tapestries and tufted rugs that hang in both prestigious public buildings and private homes. His interest in the weaving styles of other cultures and folk textile design is often evident in his own design work.
David Cochrane – Master Weaver
Since completing his apprenticeship at Dovecot Studios, David has worked on some of the studio’s highest profile projects. In addition to his years at Dovecot, he has also woven in workshops of Paris and Nuremberg, and in 2009 travelled to Pangnirtung, on Baffin Island, to work with an Inuit tapestry workshop on a commission for the 2010 Winter Olympics.
Naomi Robertson – Master Weaver
Naomi began weaving at Dovecot Studios after graduating from Edinburgh College of Art with a BA(hons) in Tapestry. A recent highlight of her tapestry career was weaving a corset, shoes and headpiece in collaboration with fashion designer Chris Clyne.
Jonathan Cleaver – Junior Weaver
After completing the BA(Hons) Tapestry at Edinburgh College of Art, Jonathan worked in related textile fields, including conservation at Burleigh House, before joining Dovecot Studios as Junior Weaver. He is particularly interested in tapestries that reference historic textile structures and designs.
