Visiting Us

Weaving Studios

The Balcony of the Weaving Studio is open on the first Tuesday of every month, 10.30am – 12.30pm. From here, you can see the weavers at work on various projects. Admission £3 (£2 concessions)

Please note, Dovecot is only open to the public during exhibition dates and specific balcony opening times. If you are interested in purchasing or commissioning a tapestry please get in touch to make an appointment.

Finding Us

Dovecot is prominently located on Infirmary Street in Edinburgh’s Old Town, close to the National Museum of Scotland, The Festival Theatre and Waverley Train Station.


Transport

Walk: Dovecot is a 10 minute walk from Waverley Train Station, Princes Street, Edinburgh Castle and Holyrood Palace.
Bus: Lothian Bus routes 3, 3A, 5, 7, 8, 14, 29, 30, 31, 33, 37, 47, X47, 48, X48, 49
Train: the closest train station is Edinburgh Waverley. From here it is a 10 minute walk or 5 minute taxi journey to Dovecot.
Bicycle: Edinburgh has a number of cycle lanes and paths. For maps please go to http://www.edinburgh.org/traveltips/aroundbike/. Dovecot has a bike rail at the front of the building.
Car: There is 2 hour on-street parking on Infirmary Street. The closest public car park is the NCP car park on Holyrood Road.

 

DOVECOT STUDIOS ACCESS POLICY


1. Dovecot aims to welcome all members of society into the Gallery, regardless of sex, age, social status, ethnic origin or ability. In support of this aim, this Access Policy sets out our criteria for providing access to Dovecot’s public spaces. We aim to promote understanding and enjoyment of our galleries through a wide range of means, as resources allow.

2. We provide physical access to the building, its construction and facilities. We have a lift to all floors and access to toilets on the ground floor of the building.

3. We aim to make all public areas and/or facilities of the building accessible to visitors with mobility impairments. We give attention to both to permanent and temporary structures in making the building accessible.

4. Our Front of house staff will assist and welcome all visitors according to their needs.
We will address the comfort and ease of visitors, including providing, where possible, appropriate toilets, nappy changing facilities, access for push chairs, and seating in galleries.

The Gallery aims to provide adequate signage and/or navigatory tools to suit a range of visitor needs , as resources become available.

6. Our website will provide infromation in different formats for a range of needs, as resources allow.

This Policy will give rise to an Access Specific Action Plan outlining specific needs and projects (as resources allow), with named individuals responsible for realising these aims and a schedule for their implementation.

The Dovecot Studio management and board will be responsible for the implementation of the Policy and Action Plan.

This Policy will be reviewed annually by the Dovecot Studio Board.
