The Blue Fan

The Blue Fan

A gun-tufted rug created in celebration of Dovecot’s 2025 exhibition The Scottish Colourists: Radical Perspectives. Created by Dovecot’s current apprentice, Sophie McCaffrey, the piece is an interpretation of Francis Campbell Boileau Cadell’s 1922 painting, The Blue Fan, which is in the National Galleries of Scotland collection.

The Garden Carpet Tapestry

Dovecot is delighted to announce it has received Multi-Year Funding from Creative Scotland that will support the creation of a series of tapestries for Scotland. The first of these tapestries is now on display at the new Garden Futures: Designing with Nature exhibition at V&A Dundee (May 2025 – February 2026). Dovecot has created a 21st century ‘Garden Carpet’ for the exhibition, connecting the history of the genre and Scottish textile heritage skills with a bold contemporary design by Farshid Moussavi Architecture (FMA).

Dovecot’s impressive triptych tapestry, designed by Christine Borland and created using a combination of traditional and modern materials and techniques. The work commemorates the ‘Edinburgh Seven’, the first women to matriculate at any British university.
