Tapestry Weaver and rug tufter Ben Hymers has collaborated with some of the finest U.K and International artists at Dovecot Tapestry Studio.
In 2020 he was an artist in residence at Inspace working with satellite data visualisers and climate scientists. He has been an invited speaker on tapestry at Dumfries House (2017) and the Cordis Prize for Tapestry (2019). He has given tapestry demonstrations at the British Library (2015) and Ace Hotel (2018) as part of London Craft Week. His works, including tapestry cartoons and rug designs have been exhibited across the U.K and Europe including the Cité internationale de la tapisserie d’Aubusson.
A University of Edinburgh History of Art graduate (2012), Ben studied classical painting techniques at the Michelangelo Institute in Florence (2009), has worked as an underwater ceramics technician at Henderson’s of Edinburgh, time travelled as a ten year old in Channel Four’s 1940’s House (2000) and after failing to become a professional magician joined Dovecot as an apprentice in 2014.
