This is Dovecot’s first time showcasing the amazing work created in our Tapestry Studio at Collect, the international art fair for contemporary craft and design. Collect is one of the world’s leading art fairs for contemporary craft and design having been established by the Crafts Council in 2004. Collect brings together international gallerists, expert in their fields, to showcase and sell work by living contemporary craft artists.
At a time when the pandemic is preventing us from coming together, a physical fair will not take place at Somerset House. Instead, Collect 2021 is working in partnership with online art platform Artsy.net where each exhibiting gallery will have their own online ‘booth’ to display their artists’ work for sale.
Dovecot’s virtual booth features tapestries and rugs created with Sir Peter Blake, Barbara Rae RA RSA, Jim Lambie, Liz Rideal, and Kurt Jackson. Collect 2021 runs until Tuesday 2 March, however our virtual booth will remain online on Artsy until Wed 24 March.
Throughout Collect 2021 we will be sharing behind the scenes content on our social media, showcasing the making of works featured in Collect, including a landmark new tufted rug with Scottish artist Jock McFadyen. Amongst others, we’ll also share the making of featured rug Soft Machine, created with contemporary Scottish artist Jim Lambie. Inspired by his series of works which manipulate metal and utilise colour, the design for Soft Machine combines Lambie’s striking 2D visuals with an aspect of sculptural work.
