• Built in Tapestry: Dovecot Tapestries and Architecture

This exhibition on the Tapestry Studio Viewing Balcony provides deeper insight to Dovecot tapestries created for bold architectural projects. In all instances the tapestry and architecture complement one another in innovation, impact and style.

The tapestries woven in collaboration with leading artists for private and public commissioners, are now situated in the architectural spaces they were designed for. This display therefore includes descriptive panels, woven samples and professional photographic imagery documenting the projects; from design to the making and finally installation.

Buildings featuring Dovecot tapestries include global company headquarters, key university buildings and architect-designed private homes. Some tapestries are commissioned as an integral part of a new architectural vision, whilst others reflect perfectly the settings for which they were designed.

The exhibition includes photography and film from the sites of recent major collaborations with Alison Watt for the Theatre Royal in Glasgow and Victoria Crowe for The Leathersellers’ Company in London.

Displayed on the walls of our stunning Viewing Balcony with Victorian vaulted ceiling, overlooking the Weaving Floor, Built in Tapestry is designed to complement the experience of looking down directly into the Tapestry Studio where our latest tapestry projects are in progress.

Please note Viewing Balcony Opening Times are Mon-Fri 12-3pm and Saturday 10.30am-5.30pm.
