  • GARRY FABIAN MILLER | VOYAGE

Exhibition Lunchtime Tours | Thursdays 8 February to 3 May 1-1.30pm | FREE

This exhibition showcases a new Garry Fabian Miller tapestry created in collaboration with Dovecot Tapestry Studio, placing it within Garry Fabian Miller’s recent body of work as well as tracing back long term influences through key early pieces from the artist’s career. Applying craft ethos to digital printing, his current work extends his ongoing research into colour in photographic image, to how an image comes into being both in print and in tapestry.

This exhibition will look in detail at these processes, from the perception and selection of colour in tapestry to recent changes in digital photographic printing that have had a major impact on Fabian Miller’s work.

The tapestry, Voyage into the deepest, darkest blue is not a direct copy of one of Fabian Miller’s prints – instead the wool blends are being developed to make a new image based on the amalgamation of two photographs. The exhibition will also feature a rarely seen image from the collection of the Victoria & Albert Museum, by pioneering photographer Gustave Le Gray (1820 – 1884). This early image is one of the first examples of a photograph made by exposing an image from two negatives.
