With the announcement that the Bayeux Tapestry is coming to the UK, Dovecot has created a programme of talks, workshops, community engagement projects and exhibitions to explore the legacy of Bayeux to past and present British fine art textiles.

Beyond Bayeux: Tapestry Now

Presenting a once-in-a-generation opportunity to reflect on tapestry’s past and shape its future, this exhibition highlights how, since the 20th century, Dovecot’s highly skilled weavers have collaborated with artists to demonstrate the continuing relevance and potential of tapestry as a contemporary art form. Featuring over 20 tapestries created with world-leading artists including David Hockney, Yinka Shonibare, Tania Kovats, Alberta Whittle, and Rachel Maclean.

Bayeux on the Balcony

See the immense scale of the Bayeux Tapestry in Scotland as a full-size print is unrolled across the length and breadth of Dovecot’s Balcony Gallery. Expert interpretation from the British Museum is combined with unique insights from Dovecot’s world class weavers and community embroiderers comparing approaches to medieval textile storytelling and modern fine art tapestry.
