Dovecot Tapestry Studio Viewing Balcony Opening Hours
1 October 2015
From week beginning Monday 5 October, the Tapestry Studio Viewing Balcony opening hours will change to Thursday and Friday 12-3pm and Saturday 10.30am-5.30pm or by appointment only.
This adjustment in access to the Tapestry Studio to view the weavers working on tapestry and rug projects, is to make provision for the weaving team to focus on two major ongoing tapestry commissions and future rug making commitments moving forward into 2016. On these allocated visitation days, you will be able to view a collection of tapestries and rugs created at Dovecot Tapestry Studio and observe the weavers working. In addition to the Viewing Balcony displays, on Friday 9 October Dovecot Gallery will open with a series of tapestries and rugs to coincide with the Scottish International Storytelling Festival, Stories Without Borders. The opening hours for Dovecot Gallery is Mon-Sat 10.30am-5.30pm.
If you are interested in how Dovecot tapestries are made and the process of collaboration between weaver and artist, then take a look at this film made to document the creation of the Glass Onion tapestry with Magne Furuholmen. Dovecot Tapestry Studio tapestries can also be viewed in public spaces including the Large Tree Group Tapestry project with Victoria Crowe at National Museum of Scotland and the Alison Watt Butterfly commission hanging in the new foyers of the recently refurbished Theatre Royal building in Glasgow.
