The Queen Elizabeth II
Simon Grosset

Dovecot joins with the nation in mourning the loss of Her Majesty The Queen. We offer our deepest condolences to the Royal Family.

Dovecot would like to pay tribute to Her Majesty’s support for the arts and for tapestry in particular.

In 2004 The Queen visited Dovecot – then at its temporary home in the grounds of Donaldson’s College, Haymarket. Her Majesty met with the then Director, David Weir and Dovecot Chairman Alastair Salvesen, before meeting weavers Naomi Robertson, Douglas Grierson and David Cochrane. They talked about the art of weaving and some of the tapestry projects they were then working on.  Her Majesty expressed her hope to staff that Dovecot would continue to thrive after overcoming challenges a few years previously. Long-serving staff and volunteers have wonderful memories of this occasion and are grateful to Her Majesty for her support.
