• Barrowland Ballet at Dovecot Studios

Barrowland Ballet brings Family Portrait to Dovecot Studios this August for the Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2023, as part of the prestigious Made in Scotland Showcase.

Family Portrait is an award-winning interactive video installation full of humour, candour, joy and love. Sitting on swivel-stools inside four screens, join a family on a geographical and emotional journey across stunning Scottish landscapes as stories unfold. The striking choreography shares an intimate portrayal of family life. With space to roam, the children encounter rabbit skulls, converse with spiders, face-paint with berries and discover the fun of burying their mother in bark. A celebration of getting out into nature, Family Portrait is an honest depiction of family – relentless and glorious chaos, intimacy and, most of all, love.

Barrowland Ballet is one of Scotland’s most exciting and successful contemporary dance companies built around the artistic work of choreographer Natasha Gilmore. The company produces high quality, accessible dance theatre performance, installation and film which are presented nationally and internationally. Barrowland Ballet is internationally recognised for its intergenerational, participatory and socially-engaged practice, and more recently for its work with and for neuro-diverse audiences. The company also has a repertoire of inter-generational, short dance films and, alongside its main repertoire of work, produces high quality participatory performance projects. The company also runs Wolf Pack, a free, intergenerational company with participants from seven to eighty years of age. More information can be found here.

Screening every day across 4th-20th August, running every 45 minutes from 10am-4.45pm (last showing 4pm).
