• Katazome Printed Textile Workshop

Learn the basics of the Japanese Katazome printing with designer Ellen Martin.

Katazome is a centuries-old, Japanese resist-dyeing method used to create patterned textiles. This workshop will begin with a brief presentation on the technique, including examples of katazome fabrics and the intricate stencils used to make them. You will then produce your own katazome textile with the guidance of Ellen, who will demonstrate the steps involved. As the technique involves many stages normally carried out over several days, it isn’t possible to produce a finished piece in a half-day workshop. You will take your fabric home, with the instructions and materials required to finish it. Don’t worry – the last steps are the most straightforward and should you have any questions, Ellen will be available to contact.
