Celebrate another form of relaxing slow stitching, with Sue of Sunshine Designs Dollar.
Kawandi which means “quilt.” Originating from the Siddi community in India, Kawandi quilts are created from the outside in, piece by piece, stitching directly onto the backing and batting. Each scrap is laid down and stitched through all layers using a visible running stitch. Whereas regular hand quilting is regular, planned and trying to be perfect, Kawandi is improvisational and mindful, created one scrap at a time.
This is a great technique to use up scraps and create a range of gorgeously textured household items – cushions, mats, wall-hangings.
Everything will be provided and a range of colour palettes will be available to choose from. Suitable for experienced stitchers and complete beginners. Sue will guide you to create a small mini-quilt (10” x 12”) which you can use as a wall hanging, to decorate a bag / cushion or as a placemat.
The workshop is run by experienced teacher and textile enthusiast Sue Crawley of Sunshine Designs Dollar.
