Discover how a contemporary artist and a weaver collaborate to create a tapestry. Join artist and writer Liz Rideal in conversation with Dovecot Master Weaver Naomi Robertson to go behind the scenes of the creative process.
British artist, art historian, educator and author Liz Rideal collaborated with Dovecot weavers to create a tapestry titled Verdure. Inspired by her grandmother and Henri Matisse (1869-1954), who were both born in Le Cateau in Northern France, Verdure is a meditation on tapestry as a fine art form, referencing not only Matisse but also Klein blue, and the tradition for designing natural forms and foliage in medieval and Renaissance textiles.
Describing the creation of Verdure, Rideal and Robertson reflect on the creative relationship between artist and weaver in this exclusive online event.
This event is part of Collect 2021, the international art fair for contemporary craft and design. Browse Dovecot’s online exhibition via Collect partner Artsy from 26 February.
