When Artistic Collaboration Works – Dovecot Studios, Garry Fabian Miller & Oxford Ceramics

Join writer and curator Amanda Game in conversation with Dovecot Master Weaver Naomi Robertson and gallerist Rachel Ackland from Oxford Ceramics to learn how creativity evolves when artists in different media collaborate.

In 2014 Dovecot Studios first began discussions with fine art photographer Garry Fabian Miller about shared interests. The mutual respect and understanding for the skilled use of craft processes, the texture of materials, and the impact of colour led to an exhibition in 2015 featuring two collaborative artworks, The Golden Light and The Ruby Embers. Dovecot and Fabian Miller have continued these conversations resulting in further artworks Day’s Eye 2017, Voyage into the deepest, darkest blue 2018.

In the past year, during the depths of lockdown, artist and weavers have drawn on both physical and digital conversation to create two new works, including As the White Light Fuses the Green Air, Midwinter 2020, which will be shown at Collect 2021 for the first time.

Describing the evolution of creative understanding and collaboration, the panel reflect on what makes a successful working relationship in this exclusive online event.

This event is part of Collect 2021, the international art fair for contemporary craft and design. Browse Dovecot’s online exhibition via Collect partner Artsy from 26 February.
