• SOLD OUT: The Art & Craft of Embroidery: Wemyss School of Needlework since 1877

Join Fiona Wemyss for a talk to discuss the changing fashions and fortunes of embroidery in Scotland since Victorian times.

The Wemyss School of Needlework was founded in 1877 by Dora Wemyss to teach a skill to local girls to enable them to earn a living. Today, the school still operates in its purpose-built building at Coaltown of Wemyss in Fife, and more recently, the Wemyss family has opened a museum and archive to modernise storage of their textile collection.

With embroidery regularly featuring in 21st Century couture collections, there is no greater time to learn about this beautiful art form.

Tickets for this talk £12 (+booking fee) include entry to May Morris Art & Life on the day of the event

Every ticket sold supports the work of The Dovecot Foundation to advance visual art, craft and design in all its forms.
