Explore how the arts and crafts movement evolved and developed in Scotland, with Simon Green of Historic Environment Scotland.
A talk examining the different ways that the influence of William Morris has manifested itself in Scotland. Each generation responds in different ways to William Morris’s ideas that were embodied in the Arts and Crafts Movement and these ideas are still potent today.
Although the subject is huge the talk will look at buildings, metalwork, stained glass, furniture, sculpture, painting and of course tapestry. It will include the work of practitioners such as Robert Lorimer, Thomas Hadden, Douglas Strachan, Phyllis Bone, William Skeoch Cumming, Tim Stead and Pheobe Traquair. The talk will celebrate some of the rich diversity that is the ever-evolving Arts and Crafts Movement in Scotland.
