Chris Clyne was a renowned haute couture fashion designer born on 8 July 1946 in Porthcawl, Wales. She studied and trained in London and Paris and launched her first business, Buckle Under, in the 1970s. Clyne created clothing for London’s elite, including Princess Diana. Clyne presented her 1997 collection at the ‘A Walk on the Wild Side’ Fashion Gala in Edinburgh. Notably, both models and dancers from The Scottish National Ballet adorned the catwalk.

In 2007, she was approached by the Dovecot Studios to create an article of clothing that would represent the versatility of the weavers’ art. To begin with, the Corset was made, then a Headpiece, with Shoes following later. The Shoes were constructed from seven intricately woven pieces and built onto a platform with a fine wooden stiletto heel carved in the shape of a tapestry bobbin.
