Julie Brook’s working method is very inclusive of others’ input and the whole weaving team at Dovecot worked with her in identifying potential ways of developing a tapestry or rug. During a visit to the artist’s studio on the Isle of Skye in 2013, the weavers saw how her thoughts about colour, light and materials were distilled into large-scale drawings using pigment gathered whilst working with the land. The formal qualities of these drawings provided a way of imagining her work translated into a textile piece by Master Weaver Jonathan Cleaver.
