Celtic Knot is part of Dovecot Patterns, a selection of tapestries created by Dovecot's weavers which evokes a cultural conversation through pattern that reaches back thousands of years. Weaver Rudi Richardson was inspired by Celtic imagery for this tapestry, in particular the Celtic knot.
Knot motifs have been used as repeated decorative patterns for applications such as stonework and manuscript illustration from as early as the Roman period. Rather than using the knot motif as a secondary decorative element, Richardson centred the knot and outlined the design in bold contrasting colours. The green boarder has been woven using the basket weave technique to add further texture to the tapestry.
This tapestry is available for sale at £2,000 inclusive of VAT. All funds raised from sales support the work of Dovecot Studios and the tapestry apprenticeship scheme.
