In late 2007 Chris Clyne, a highly respected clothes designer in London and Edinburgh, was commissioned to explore how she could design ‘clothing’ to genuinely project the weaver’s art. The result is a museum piece – an astonishing one off master work of distinct original design and exceptional craftsmanship. Chris Clyne worked with Master Weaver Naomi Robertson – they developed a mutual admiration for each other’s creativity and a determination to produce completely original pieces of tapestry. Patterns were drawn up for the Corset consisting of 12 shaped pieces. Each piece was individually painted to reflect parrot-like colours creating the design for the tapestry work. From brightly coloured brushstrokes, Naomi ingeniously interpreted and wove the intricate pieces.
