The Red Bouquet is a gun-tufted rug made after Blackadder’s 1975 oil painting of the same name, in the collection of Gracefield Arts Centre, Dumfries. The work is characteristic of her 1970s still lifes: an assortment of small but cherished objects are laid out in the composition. The stark contrast of crimson red against cobalt blue made for a particularly appealing painting to translate into a rug. Tufted over two months, the rug is Dovecot’s most recent creation after a Blackadder painting. This longstanding artistic relationship has continued across seven decades and resulted in over 30 tapestries and rugs.
