    Honeysuckle, After May Morris

Designed as a wallpaper for Morris & Co, Honeysuckle is a stylised pattern of intertwining stems, curling leaves, and elegant honeysuckle flowers. Although it is a recognisable motif, many may not know that it was designed by William Morris’ youngest daughter, May.

The original design for Honeysuckle was presented in an exhibition held at Dovecot in 2019, May Morris: Art & Life. Inspired by the timeless quality of this design and its flowing proportions, Dovecot weaver Rudi Richardson created his own interpretation of this motif. In this tapestry, the honeysuckle flower is centred surrounded by tendrils and leaves. The design is emphasised with bold outlines, and gentle colour gradients are seen in the coral and peachy petals.

This tapestry is available for sale for £2,000 inclusive of VAT, with funds raised from the sale directed to supporting the work of Dovecot Studios and the tapestry apprenticeship scheme.
