Iznik Tile is part of Dovecot Patterns, a selection of tapestries created by Dovecot's weavers which evokes a cultural conversation through pattern that reaches back thousands of years. As a student Master Weaver Naomi Robertson visited the Sultan Ahmed Mosque, also known as the Blue Mosque, in Turkey. The image of the mosque interior decorated with over 20,000 handmade ceramic Iznik tiles in blue, green, and turquoise hues has stayed with her ever since.
Recalling memories of her trip, Robertson created this tapestry in the style of Iznik tiles which are named after their town of origin in Turkey. The blue and red colours, and floral motifs are common in Iznik ceramics, and the square format of the tapestry itself echoes the tiles of the mosque.
This tapestry is available for sale at £2,000 inclusive of VAT. All funds raised from sales support the work of Dovecot Studios and the tapestry apprenticeship scheme.
