Joan Eardley: July Fields

To mark Joan Eardley’s centenary in 2021, Dovecot worked in partnership with the Artist’s Estate to create a new tapestry interpreting Eardley’s painting July Fields, 1959 (from the Edinburgh City Art Centre Collection). The tapestry was shown for the first time at The Scottish Gallery’s Joan Eardley Centenary exhibition (30 July – 28 August 2021) as part of Edinburgh Art Festival 2021. This stunning commission was woven using a high-warp loom at Dovecot Studios and offers a new way in which to closely study and engage with Eardley’s unique composition, palette and mark-making.

July Fields will be on display in our upcoming exhibition Scottish Women Artists: 250 Years of Challenging Perception, from 28 July 2023– 6 Jan 2024.
