Mark Hearld: The Cockerel

In 2024, Mark Hearld was invited to Dovecot to take up a month long residency on the weaving floor. This proved to be an exceptionally creative time for Mark, seeing him produce multiple large-scale works. These collages were inspired by the scale and colours of the studio and included his trademark iconography from the natural world.  Many of these works have gone on to be shown at Mark’s 2025 solo exhibition at the Scottish Gallery ‘Collage con Brio!’. Alongside collages and prints, the exhibition unveiled the tapestry Cockerel, created in collaboration with Dovecot Studios, a testament to Mark's boundless creativity and passion for craft and design. Cockerel was designed by Mark to be interpreted specifically into tapestry and incorporates many of the motifs and textures created during his residency.
