Monochrome Mud Print is part of Dovecot Patterns, a selection of tapestries created by Dovecot's weavers which evokes a cultural conversation through pattern that reaches back thousands of years. Weaver Emma Jo Webster was inspired by traditional Malian textiles known as mud cloth, or bogolanfini. The mud cloth is usually a cotton fabric dyed with fermented mud, with its origins dating back to the 12th century. The mud cloth patterns reflect the history and stories of Malian communities, and in recent decades, the pattern has seen a revival across contemporary design.
