Victoria Crowe: Richer Twilight, Venice

To celebrate the 50-year artistic career of Victoria Crowe, Dovecot Studios collaborated with the artist on a new tapestry inspired by a detail from her painting, Twilight, Venice, 2014.

Titled Richer Twilight, Venice, this tapestry is a meditation on the city’s Byzantine palette and distinctive skyline, which evokes artistic comparison with Edinburgh. Engaging with the textural complexity of the painting, Dovecot weavers created a sumptuous interpretation of the work that captures the fleeting subtleties of twilight.

Richer Twilight, Venice highlights the skill of Dovecot weavers in translating painterly detail and complex colour tonality, while simultaneously celebrating artistic collaboration between artist and weavers.
