Dovecot Tapestries & Rugs at Messums, Wiltshire

Featuring clothes from 8th century Peru to 21st century Denmark as well as rugs, tapestries and embroideries made by some of the greatest names in Western art, Material: Textile is a celebration of the use of textiles in visual art and design.

Ancient techniques of weaving, tapestry, embroidery and knitting continue to have a lasting appeal for artists, but also celebrated in Material: Textile is the synergy between the commissioning person or artist and the workshop that is often present in the process of making tapestries or carpets. In particular the important roles played by the Edinburgh based weavers Dovecot Studio is highlighted in the exhibition.

Dovecot Studios tapestries and rugs on display in the exhibition include Grangemouth at Night Smoke and Lights, by Kurt Jackson, Glass Onion, by Magne Furuholmen, and Easter Day by William Crozier.
