From the chairs we sit on, to the lights we sit under and the tables we eat off, we encounter design in our everyday lives. But what is good design in the contemporary age and why does it deserve support and celebration?

Last year curator Susanna Beaumont launched Design Exhibition Scotland. A pioneering project, DES sets out to raise the profile of exceptional everyday objects and the work of contemporary designers. Addressing issues of function, sourcing and sustainability, DES aims to invite debate and champion contemporary design excellence and exploration.

In the run-up to the second edition of Design Exhibition Scotland, Susanna will join Dovecot director Celia Joicey to talk about her ambitions for design in Scotland and the importance of supporting today’s designers.

Design Exhibition Scotland (DES) champions design excellence and exploration. The second edition of DES opens 28 June and runs until 2 July at Lyon & Turnbull Edinburgh.
