• POSTPONED Beyond Brutalism: Scotland’s Modern Theatres 1950-1990

This event has been postponed. If you purchased a ticket to this event our team will be in touch with you via email. We will post updates on our website and social media channels.

Discover how architects created a new kind of theatre for post-war Scotland. Some of the theatres might be described as ‘brutalist’, but they also tell us other stories.

Between 1950 and 1990 there was a surge in new theatre buildings to reflect post-war ideals with theatres conceived as a public space or service. Dr Alistair Fair, a historian of architecture, presents the history of post-war theatre buildings as a history of ideas relating not only to performance and modern architecture, but also to culture, citizenship, and the modern city.
