Join us for 'Homegrown: Celebrating Scottish Fashion', an evening of diversity and Scottish fashion as we partner with the I Am More Than campaign for an inspiring fashion show and discussion panel with some of the country’s best designers and makers. The bar will be open throughout the evening serving a range of drinks. Mark your calendars for September 21st!

Led by co-founders Rosalind Main and Morgan McTiernan, I Am More Than has been campaigning since 2017 through events, art exhibitions, editorial shoots and insightful panel talks. Find out more about the campaign on Instagram.

DISCUSSION PANEL SPEAKERS 

Mal James

Professor Mal James has made an established impact on fashion design education, serving as the Fashion Programme Director at Edinburgh College of Art at the University of Edinburgh, as well as Head of the School of Design. During his tenure, he founded the All Walks Beyond the Catwalk Diversity Network, proposed by Caryn Franklin; a pioneering initiative aimed at empowering students and equipping them to become catalysts for positive change within the fashion industry. He was previously a Trustee of Graduate Fashion Week and sits on the committee for the British Fashion Council Colleges Council. 

His work has been exhibited internationally at esteemed venues such as the Scottish National Portrait Gallery, the International Centre for Lace and Fashion in France, and exhibitions in Nottingham, Venice, and Shanghai. In 2019, he contributed his expertise to the National Museum of Scotland's ‘Body Beautiful: Diversity on the Catwalk’ exhibition and authored a chapter on fashion education and inclusivity in the recent book Fashion Education, the System Revolution. 

 

Iona Hay

Iona is a 21 year old fashion student and model. She is going into her final year of university at Edinburgh College of art, which she is simultaneously super excited and nervous about. Iona has been modelling for almost four years now, signed with the Zebedee Talent agency; who are committed to changing the way disability, visible difference and gender are represented in fashion. She has had some of the most incredible experiences working with high street and high end brands, getting a glimpse into the world of fashion and can't wait for what's next!

 

Rosalind Main

Rosalind is a contemporary artist based in Edinburgh and Glasgow. She graduated from Gray’s School of Art in 2016 before completing a Masters in Contemporary Art Practice at Edinburgh College of Art in 2020 and an MSc in Modern and Contemporary Art: History, Curating and Criticism in 2022. She is an Activist for Body Inclusivity having co-founded the I Am More Than in 2017 and has been working in the public domain since launch of the campaign and has appeared on national radio and television, publicly speaking and creating Artwork on the subject of body image and consumerism.

 

Morgan McTiernan

Morgan is a Scottish curve model based between Glasgow, London and Sydney. She is a graduate of Art History from the University of Glasgow and also a freelance journalist. Co-founder of the I Am More Than campaign, she strives to raise awareness of the lack of diversity of curve models in the modelling industry.
