Curious to learn the traditional techniques of Japanese woodblock printing?
This two-day workshop gives you the opportunity to learn all the basics of designing and carving a block before using it to print in various colours. Campbell will provide stories of the historical and cultural context of full-colour woodblock prints in Japan.
Join tutor Campbell Sandilands who lived in Japan for seven years, studying art and culture. After finishing a fine art degree in Dundee, Scottish artist Campbell Sandilands followed his heart and finished his artistic training in Japan, completing his MFA at the Tama Art University in Tokyo, before going on to pursue four years of training in sho, or brush calligraphy with a Master in Kyoto. Such a long-served apprenticeship is a common feature of the Japanese approach, where craft and art are not viewed as separate entities but rather form part of an integrated whole.
All materials will be provided.
