The Cloth, Summer Summit, 1985
Enjoy an evening viewing of LIBERTY Art Fabrics & Fashion including a talk by Fraser Taylor on the crucial role that Scottish art colleges, like Glasgow School of Art, and high end department stores, such as Liberty, played in supporting British fashion and textiles during the 1980s.
Fraser Taylor studied printed textiles at The Glasgow School of Art and Fine Art at the Royal College of Art, London. In 1983, he formed The Cloth, a design studio with fellow RCA students David Band, Brian Bolger and Helen Manning. The studio quickly attracted attention for bold use of colour and shape, as well as a desire to blur the boundaries between fine art and design projects. The Cloth worked extensively with Liberty Studio during the early 1980s, including textile designs for Yves Saint Laurent with Liberty and for clients such as Paul Smith, Calvin Klein, Aztec Camera, Spandau Ballet and The Bluebells. Join Fraser Taylor for unique insights into his art school training and 1980s design. Taylor will discuss the changing landscape for artists and designers during this time and the importance of working collectively.
Fraser Taylor is an interdisciplinary artist who works with a range of media including drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking and animation.
