• LIBERTY Lates | Arts & Crafts from 1900 to Now
    Edinburgh Napier University

Enjoy an evening viewing of the LIBERTY Art Fabrics & Fashion exhibition with a chance to hear new research from Edinburgh Napier University on 21st Century arts and crafts.

The Arts & Crafts Movement, founded in the late 19th century, promoted the knowledge and understanding of materials alongside the importance of skilled production by hand. In the 21st century, a new generation of designer-makers is seeking to revolutionise our relationship with manufacturing with what has been termed ‘The Maker Movement’. With access and creative use of advanced tools – 3D printers, laser cutters and AutoCAD software – ordinary people have the opportunity to make extraordinary things. Join Sam Vettese, Senior Lecturer and Reader in Applied Art and Design at Edinburgh Napier University, to discover the latest innovations in new materials and how you can play a part in the reinvention of Arts & Crafts for the digital age.

Sam Vettese is an award-winning jewellery and metalwork designer. Her work is in the collections of National Museums Scotland and her research interest encompass art, design and heritage with an emphasis on digital craft.

Admission to the talk is free with your Liberty Late ticket. Seating is unreserved, please arrive early to secure a space.
