    Kaffe Fassett 'Ginger Jar' Tapestries

Visit Mount Stuart on Friday 26th May for an evening of discussion with Dovecot Studios Curator Ben Reiss and Mouny Stuart Trust Curator Jessica Insley.

Between 1991 and 1994, Edinburgh Tapestry Company (now Dovecot Studios) made five tapestries and a rug with Fassett at the studio’s previous home in Corstorphine, just outside of Edinburgh.

The Mount Stuart Trust has loaned two of these tapestries - Green Ginger Jar and Pink Ginger Jar - to Dovecot Studios for Kaffe Fassett The Power of Pattern exhibition on display through July 8 2023.

Join Ben Reiss (Exhibitions Manager and Curator at Dovecot Studios) and Jessica Insley (Curator at the Mount Stuart Trust) on 26th of May for a discussion that delves deeper into the intertwined histories of the Dovecot Studios, the Edinburgh Tapestry Company and the Bute Family. Learn more about Kaffe Fassett's work and discover his passion for Scotland. Come and get inspired by the power of colour - Blue Ginger Jar and Yellow Ginger Jar by Fassett will be on display in this rare opportunity to revisit these original commissions up close.

Kaffe Fassett is one of the most successful artists and designers working in contemporary craft today. His career spans over 50 years with a prolific oeuvre that encompasses knitting, needlepoint, mosaic, quilting, textile design, painting and drawing. His books and projects have encouraged millions to make and to create with his designs being used and interpreted by quilters around the globe. This new exhibition at Dovecot Studios (originally organised by the Fashion and Textile Museum, London) will explore Fassett’s world, drawing on original textile artworks from invited international makers, garments, and archival material to illuminate the work of this distinctive artist and designer.
