Teabowl and Bracken is the first collaboration undertaken by Dovecot with artist Angie Lewin. Lewin's artistic practice is varied and includes linocuts, wood engravings, screen prints, collage and watercolours.
Lewin is inspired by nature of all kinds, from clifftops to saltmarshes and she illustrates these environments and their native vegetation in wood engraving, linocut, silkscreen, lithograph and collage. Her still lifes often incorporate seedpods, grasses, flints and dried seaweed collected on walking and sketching trips.
Teabowl and Bracken has been translated from a small wood engraving of the same name, measuring 5.5 x 7.5cm - the finished tapestry measures 75 x 111cm. Dovecot weavers Louise Trotter and Ben Hymers worked hard to depict the texture of the original engraving in tapestry, especially when scaling up to such a degree.
