Lively Blue is a new tapestry created specially for our exhibition Scottish Women Artists: 250 Years of Challenging Perception. Woven by Dovecot weaver Ben Hymers, Lively Blue is based on the Sekai Machache's abstract ink drawings that make up a wider exploration of the colour blue, particularly indigo. Indigo has a complex colonial history due to its prominence as a cultivatable plant in the West Indies and American South.
Lively Blue is currently on display in our exhibition Scottish Women Artists: 250 Years of Challenging Perception, from 28 July 2023– 6 Jan 2024.
